Jamie Oliver Saves The World
I love Jaime Oliver, he's had such an influence on cooking over here not only in the UK but also in Ireland, he was a new generation of chef and showed us that cooking could be fun and not just something that aged chefs do, he showed us that you can be young and still have a flair for cooking!!! I say good luck to him, just dont keep him over there for too long we will want him back at some stage!!!

The radio DJ and the cafeteria ladies are so against what he is trying to do.  It's very sad, and during the first episode I became angry, with the DJ saying things like, "Hey, we don't want to eat lettuce, give  us our fried food!"  This is the town that is the fattest in America.  Suicide with a spoon.
I really love this and what its doing, and i love jamie. At the same time, i'm a bit frustrated that it has to come from a foreigner. I'm not saying that no one in america is  trying to fix this. I know alot of chefs, nutritionists, parents etc... are trying and care. I know this is a subject michelle obama is working diligently on.  But what i am saying is in a way this show shows the problem too. not enough americans involved. too much complacency. not enough media on the subject. I'm in medical school and ive seen moms crying when u tell em their 9 year old has diabetes, but hten u talk to them about nutrition and they have no clue. they just think its no junk food. The main problem is education on the matter, and i know jamie is trying to address that, but all americans are to blame. even me,im not close to being as healthy as i should be. If you look at this new double down chicken sandwich at KFC everyone is talking about, its disgusting, and yet websites have countdowns for its release. even reputable ones like eater.com
where are our american shows that show u can eat everything and be healthy too. BBC has "you are what u eat" w jillian mcceath, we have the travel channels "man v food" and the shows with disgusting size burgers. i mean come on ppl. this is our legacy to our children?

on another note, there is a teacher that has been blogging about the food system in schools long before this show started. i would look at some of the shit that is served at schools. http://twitter.com/fedupwithlunch
Thanks for highlighting Jamie's show.  I too love what he's doing and hope it spreads nationwide although it's tough to watch.  As a parent it's certainly easier to serve 'brown night' (chicken nuggets, fries, etc.) but the long term effects are frightening.  Our family recently joined a local CSA in Frederick which my kids are very excited about.  Seeing where there food is coming from and helping it to grow I hope will have a positive impact on what they eat.  They've promised to at least try every vegetable that comes from 'our' farm.

Now they've also said they would eat any vegetables the Voltaggio brothers cooked  and since that's a little cost prohibitive for me on a regular basis I'd appreciate if you can keep the veggie recipes coming and keep them healthy when possible!   I can use all the help I can get!

Cheers
Hi Bryan and Michael:

I have not really enjoyed Jamie Oliver's cooking shows and books because he really just throws a few ingredients together without really teaching about new techniques or ingredients.

However, I, too, have been watching his Food Revolution and must applaud him for what he is doing.  Hats off to Jamie

Ed
No doubt, the show has been packaged to cram a week's worth of taping into one hour, and we only see the highlights.  But it is rather disgusting that some kids (heck, any kid) couldn't tell the difference between a tomato and a potato.  Or that they would still insist upon eating a chicken "nugget" despite watching how one is made and seeing first hand what goes into it.  Or that the school administrators would choose a food program that feeds children pizza for breakfast and pizza for lunch (and parents that then feed the kids pizza again for dinner).  How crazy is that?  No wonder they are fat and diabetic.  The only thing scarier is the apathy of the townspeople and their blase attitude about being so horrifically overweight and unhealthy.

It's an entertaining show.  But also a sobering (and sad) one.
Our elementary school, located in Frederick, starting planning our vegetable garden prior to hearing about Jaime's Food Revolution.  Since learning about it, watching his TED speech and watching the show, we are more energized, passionate and determined then ever.  Thank you for promoting this Revolution.  Every child in America should have a right to healthy food.  40% of our school's poplulation receives free or reduced lunch.  For some of them that meal is the main meal of their day.  We are very lucky to have dedicated parents, teachers and staff that want to make sure our students have access to healthy food.  Of course we invite the Voltaggio's to join us in our goals, our passion and ultimately our success, in teaching children about healthy food.  I urge all of your followers to help students grow a vegetable garden at your local school or at the least donate excess food that you grow to a school, even if it's just enough for student to have a taste.

Thank you!!
It's about time people look at what they put in their plates and thus in their body! Food is life and health so quality, content, and methods of cooking are very important. It's great that people get so interested in the food making nowadays (thanks to TV show like Top Chef and to chef like you V brothers and to chefs like Jamie).Hope it gets into everyday life of as many as possible.
Jamie Oliver is amazing and taking on a very necessary challenge. I wish him all the best and will definitely be watching.
I would like to see all the chefs in the USA join together and setup a 'Teach Schools How To Cook' where each chef helps to plan a local school's menu for the year and teaches kids about food.

Hunh...thought I had already posted on this.
Anyway, can't say I'm a big fan of Jamie's cooking, however, he should be lauded for his efforts in educating people about nutrition.
