The best soft shell dish is from my back deck. Soak 'em for awhile in milk. Drain. Olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper and thow them on the grill. Easy. (sorry, no photo.)
Oh I love soft shell crabs! Arundel Seafood in Pasadena makes a good soft shell crab!! I live in Miami (but grew up in Carroll County) and just had a bushel of crabs flown in for my bday and of course we had grilled corn on the cob as well. Not silverqueen but still good!
Down on the DC waterfront at Maine Ave. Two huge, fried, delicious softshells. Two pieces wonderbread. Tartar. One sandwich. Awesome.
As a Maryland girl at heart, this post made me smile. Just had my first soft shells of the season at the Virginia Street Cafe in Urbanna, VA. No frills - just honest Chesapeake Bay cooking. Only downside? My four year old has developed a taste for them, so there were less for me this time around :-)
From someone who lived in the 202 for four years and the 703 for nine years, I can relate to the love of these delectable items. Favorite place was an old boyfriend's parents' house in Gaithersburg, out in the backyard, huge steam pot, tons of Old Bay, and lots of grilled corn on the cob. :)
Michael, I was at your restaurant on Friday & I have a great picture of your soft shell crab. Not sure how to add a pic on this website. Go to your Facebook page & check it out there. I will add it
Lived on the Eastern Shore for three years. Crab Alley in West Ocean City has the best crab anything on the shore. They'll smoke your fresh catch in-house and it's the best bowl of cream of crab soup on the peninsula. Just across the bay, though, love Cantler's in Annapolis. Cans of Yuengling lager make it even better.
We had the soft shell crabs at Volt last weekend! They were delicious!!

We, too, use a breakfast favorite in preparing fantastic soft shell crabs... but it's not corn flakes, it's Aunt Jemima's pancake mix! Soak the soft shells in milk or, even better, buttermilk, then dredge in pancake mix heavily seasoned with S&P and Old Bay. Saute in fairly deep oil with clarified butter added until barely cooked yet crunchy and golden brown. All they need is a squeeze of lemon to finish. Yum!!
Bo Breckies.....Bel Air Rd. or a little crab restaurant out near the old Benji's drive-in. Can't remember the name of the place......
I love soft shell crabs! If anyone knows of a place in central Jersey where I can get good soft shell crabs, please let me know!
Thanks. Now I need soft shell crabs for dinner. I guess I need to make a trip to the 410 tonight.
